Little Mountain are a three piece group
comprising Bob Wilkinson on finger-style guitar and vocals, Dave
Cook on slide-guitar, guitar and vocals, and Jon Harrington on
blues harmonica and vocals and percussion. They have continued
to evolve musically since their earlier days exploring the possibilities
of folk and blues. As always, much of what they play has a blues
feel - as they draw upon influences such as Muddy Waters and early
Rolling Stones, although they do stamp their own mark very definitely
upon some familiar classics. On occasions, as musicians they plumb
their own depths and older influences, and come up with an older
blues number. Yet, even here, they consciously 'little- ountainise'
the songs they play.

The musicians also tap into the contemporary
folk scene, with obvious echoes of Dylan, Roy Harper, Nick Drake,
Ralph McTell and Steve Earle. These influences come out in their
more folk-oriented numbers written by the three individuals, with
themes that are amusing, romantic, political and often
deeply personal. And of course, they also deliver their own interpretations
of well-known and lesser-known songs from the contemporary folk
genre.
The three musicians have each arrived from
quite different musical backgrounds - from rock bands, from busking
and playing the bars of Paris, to jamming in the revolving-door
scene of their more recent incarnations as an emerging band. They
periodically retreat as a band to a bohemian farmhouse near the
Black Mountains - called Little Mountain. And it is from here
that the musicians derive not only the band name, but also the
inspiration that has given rise to some of their most poignant
compositions.
Bob, Dave and Jon combine to create music that goes way beyond
the limitations of their individual musical backgrounds
